Guide to Mentoring, Externships, and Internships for UC-Berkeley Graduate Students in Business & Engineering

The Fisher Information Technology Center at the University of California, Berkeley offers programs for mentoring, externships, and internships to U. C. Berkeley graduate students interested in information technology.

MENTORING: Fisher IT Center Leadership Program

This program matches graduate students with Senior IT executives interested in mentoring.  Participating executives are willing to talk with a student at a mutually agreeable time for an initial hour, and then to be available afterwards for email or telephone consultations, as the student requests and the executive agrees.

To request a mentor match, please send an e-mail to grantham@haas.berkeley.edu with the following information by January 31, 2008:

SITE VISITS: Fisher IT Center CIO Externship Program

This program matches graduate students with Senior IT executives interested in hosting one or two day visits to their firm. These visits are typically held during the school winter break period (December 26—January 18), though they can be scheduled at other times. Students become familiar with the role and responsibilities of the Chief Information Officer and the Information Technology group, meet some of the staff members, and gain a better understanding of the information technology function within the firm. Companies may use this as a chance to personally meet and recruit highly qualified employees for summer or permanent jobs.

To apply for externships, please send an e-mail to grantham@haas.berkeley.edu with the following information by November 30, 2007 for winter break externships, or February 28, 2008, for spring externships:

SUMMER PROJECTS: Fisher IT Center Fellows Program

This program provides U.C. Berkeley graduate students opportunities for employment within the 2008 summer period (May 27-August 22). These students might work independently under company direction or as a member of a team including company staff members. Companies may use this as a chance to personally meet and recruit highly qualified employees for permanent positions.

NOTE: Summer job opportunities have already been posted to CalJobs and CareerNet, and additional positions will be posted periodically. Please check back for new opportunities.
